Greetings from CEO Tania Vrionis

What a whirlwind it’s been! Since joining Ovarian Cancer Canada in August, I’ve loved participating in the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope and seeing the community in action.
Of course, I’m also in close communication with thought leaders: Elisabeth Baugh, past CEO; Mark Galloway, the Chair of our Board of Directors; and Erin Barrett, incoming Chair of the Board. With our gratitude overflowing after a successful Walk, we wanted to send you this special message as we look ahead to the future.

To the role of CEO, I bring more than 20 years’ experience in the non-profit sector, where I’ve worked on special causes ranging from education to healthcare. I approach every challenge with an eye to putting valued stakeholders like you first and foremost -- every step of the way -- from strategic planning and program development to advocacy and so much more.
With that, please know that I am your eager student. I am already learning a great deal about the road ahead as we work to improve outcomes for women with ovarian cancer, while advancing research and prevention efforts.
Your thoughts on these issues are vital. In fact, what struck me about this cause is the fearlessness with which the community has seized every opportunity to affect change. Harnessing each ebb and flow to challenge the way people talk about and think about living ovarian cancer. The community’s unstoppable push to ensure that more women with ovarian cancer can benefit from scientific progress to live longer and better, moved me to pursue this chance of a lifetime to make a difference.
While we’ve never met face to face, I know you by your reputation for taking this cause to heart and to task. You are the reason I’m here and my inspiration for joining this team. Ovarian Cancer Canada continues to be by your side delivering on our mission to champion the health and wellbeing of those living with this disease, and others at risk for it, while advancing research to save lives.
I look forward to meeting you one day. Let’s make it soon! Join me at the Fall Symposium coming up November 5 and 6. You’ll hear about progress against ovarian cancer made possible by your generous support, and learn from leading experts on research, genetics, navigating the system of care, and more.
I’ll be kicking off the Symposium on Day One and hope you’ll tune in. Free registration is available now.
