You are in a position of power

With the pandemic continuing to dominate the headlines, I’m writing this with better news. As part of our community, you’re in a position of power. Because your support of Ovarian Cancer Canada is coming full circle.
While other organizations have had to cut back, we have been relentless in delivering progress on all fronts. Though our budget is as lean as ever, Ovarian Cancer Canada is championing the health and wellbeing of those affected by this disease and those at risk for it, while keeping the lab lights on at leading institutions across the country.
Because of support from people like you, we are standing at the cusp of scientific discoveries that will lead to improved treatments that extend life and reduce side effects. Ovarian Cancer Canada’s OvCAN initiative fast-tracks learnings on the full spectrum of ovarian cancer; not only the most common subtype, but also rare forms of the disease that are less studied.
We are continuing to unite the community safely, through virtual experiences in the comforts of home. I recently heard from a few women who were previously unable to attend our events due to distance. They’d never met anyone who truly understood what they were going through. But in hosting our symposium online for the first time, Ovarian Cancer Canada brought these women an opportunity to see the faces and hear the voices of people who could relate firsthand and offer hope for the path ahead.
As much as it is an unprecedented time in world history, it is also a time of unprecedented opportunity for the community that Ovarian Cancer Canada works with and for.
I WANT TO HELP
Up to this point in the pandemic, Ovarian Cancer Canada has exceeded expectations with a drastically reduced budget. Now our vision to help women live fuller, better, longer lives is closer than ever to being realized. This work cannot wait, it cannot stop because of the pandemic. We have simply come too far.
We must seize this day. We can and must go further. Immediate action is needed if we are to intervene where the system is under intense pressure. Women with ovarian cancer deserve to live their best lives, during these strange times and in brighter days ahead.
COUNT ME IN
With your help today, we’ll deepen personalized support offerings, connecting women and families with the latest resources, clinical trial information, and more. Beyond this, we’ll continue to blaze trails in advocacy, combining real-world insights with data on the healthcare system to identify gaps and ensure that women across the country have equal access to the best available treatment and care. But we need to act now, on the heels of our previous successes, while we have the attention of decision makers.
At the same time, we must stop the disease before it starts. In addition to reaching women at high risk for ovarian cancer with information on prevention, this means working closely with our partners to ensure these women can access genetic testing, risk-reducing surgeries, and follow-up care. Imagine: this could save hundreds of lives each year, making way for a generation of pre-vivors; women at high risk for this disease who took action to prevent it. And they would have you to thank, because you chose to stand up for them today.
LET’S SAVE LIVES
Join me in insisting on meaningful change with a donation to Ovarian Cancer Canada. While it may be bold of me to ask for your support when you’re being pulled in many directions, I’m certain that you’ll see that we are continuing to innovate and rise to current challenges, reflecting the tenacity and grit of the very women and families who inspire our mission.
If ever there was a time to give to Ovarian Cancer Canada, it’s now. Please donate. Every gift, every dollar, empowers progress.
