Giving hope this holiday season

A few weeks ago at Ovarian Cancer Canada’s Fall Symposium, I tuned in for a discussion between Sylvie Halde, who was diagnosed 13 years ago, and Sarah Nersesian, a young scientist and Vanier Scholar. Their conversation centered around hope. Hope for better outcomes and research progress. What they shared resonated with me on many levels.
The momentum that bolsters everything we do at Ovarian Cancer Canada - and the way our community rallies to such powerful effect through donations, fundraising, and volunteering - tell me we have every reason to hope.
Unique to this community is the sense of responsibility that comes from learning more about ovarian cancer, through a diagnosis or even academically. This cause challenges us to find meaningful ways to give back. Even as we continue to reach for a new normal, it’s about taking an active role in what you care about and doing something to move the needle on this critical women’s health issue.
It’s about being generous. Sylvie and some of her Teal Sisters living with this disease recently spent an entire week deep in deliberations on research funding. They spoke up for what they knew would make a difference to thousands of people across the country who are affected by this disease. And they are being heard loud and clear by Ovarian Cancer Canada and everyone at the research table; renowned scientists and industry leaders alike.
This season of giving, let’s give more reasons to hope. Your donation to Ovarian Cancer Canada helps women with this disease, and others at risk for it, live fuller, better, longer lives. Every dollar is immediately maximized, furthering programs that help people connect with the latest information and with one another for heartfelt support. At the same time, your gift advances research across the country.
People confronting ovarian cancer are shouldering the challenge of a lifetime, while doing their part to improve the journey for others. So please join me in giving generously, lighting the path ahead so that we can all make strides forward with and for the people we love, over the holidays and always.
