Ovarian Cancer Canada achieves accreditation
July 10, 2014
Ovarian Cancer Canada has been accredited by Imagine Canada’s National Standards Program. With this achievement, we have been recognized for our dedication to operational excellence. Canada has over 80,000 charitable organizations and we join just over 100 who have earned this special recognition.
Accountable to Canadians
“We believe Imagine Canada provides an important service to Canadians by accrediting charities that have done their due diligence with regard to accountability,” says Elisabeth Baugh, CEO of Ovarian Cancer Canada.
“We are delighted with our accreditation as it represents a significant milestone for Ovarian Cancer Canada – demonstrating to our community strong governance, management and operating practices. It was a thorough and rigorous process over a nine-month period that required a great deal of work by staff and Board members to achieve compliance.”
Transparent, peer-review process
The Standards Program is a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and non-profits designed to strengthen practices in five fundamental areas:
Ovarian Cancer Canada’s policies and procedures in these five areas were evaluated by a group of distinguished volunteers from the charitable sector, and were found to be in compliance with the Standards Program.
The goals of the Standards Program include increasing an organization’s transparency and capacity, and strengthening public confidence in individual organizations and the charitable sector as a whole.
