Getting Our Virtual Walk On: Are You Ready?
July 23, 2020.
Have you registered for the 2020 Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope: The Virtual Edition? On Sunday, September 13, 2020, participants will wear their teal and lace up to Walk in communities across Canada with a single goal in mind – to help save women’s lives.
While we continue to monitor Coronavirus (COVID-19) developments, the Walk is one very special event we can still look forward to. The Walk will certainly look different this year, but we are focused on coming together (safely) and raising much needed funds. Walk your way and Walk for her. Be sure to invite all your friends because the 2020 Walk has no boundaries, it’s virtual!
Five reasons why you should register for the 2020 Walk:
- You can help further progress against this disease. Research is the only way to change the course of ovarian cancer for good. Ovarian Cancer Canada has been able to make investments in research because of funds raised from this event.
- You can foster connection. The Walk is often the first-time women living with ovarian cancer – our teal sisters - connect with someone who knows exactly what they are going through. This year, the Walk will have no boundaries, increasing the positive relationships women can build online, in their community and beyond.
- You can honour the women in your life and Walk for her. Walk because the women in your life are important to you. Walk for those who have been touched by ovarian cancer and for those who need to know more about the disease.
- You will be supported by the team at Ovarian Cancer Canada every step of the way. When you register for the Walk and begin your fundraising journey, you will receive exclusive updates, Walk swag to wear with pride, tips to make a difference in your community and more.
- You can make positive change. Rally your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues to take action. Walk participants will connect on a new level, in more ways and with people outside of their own community, all united by this important cause.
Ready? The countdown is on and we need your help to make the 2020 Walk a success! Register and start a team today, set your fundraising goal and make an impact in your community and beyond.
This event would not be possible without our passionate participants, creative fundraisers, generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers. Speaking of passionate and dedicated volunteers…
Meet Bettina: Dedicated to making a difference

Bettina Caroli (pictured above), of Montreal, Quebec, first became involved with Ovarian Cancer Canada in 2019, when she organized a Spin-a-thon fundraiser honouring her late aunt, Angela, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2012.
“My aunt was a force of nature. She was this strong, hilarious woman who was not afraid of anything. I always thought, well, it’s cancer, cancer gets cured. I had to learn that is not always the case for ovarian cancer. We have to learn more and fund more research to help save more women,” says Bettina. “More people have passed since my aunt passed, and more will pass in the upcoming years which is why we need more answers and why I am determined to lead the Walk in my community.”
Bettina is a recent graduate law student at the University of Montreal and a McGill alumni. This summer, she is taking her dedication to the next level by volunteering to co-chair the 2020 Walk in Montreal, Quebec.
“We lost my aunt Angela when she was only 56 years old. Her daughter, my mom and I, will always have a part of us missing. She used to have this obsession about making me breakfast the moment I would wake up, and I would get so annoyed. Thinking back on it now, I would give anything to wake up and have her make me breakfast and laugh hysterically at her attempts for synchronized dance moves in the pool,” recalls Bettina. “As a family member who has seen the impact of this disease, I want to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of yourself and to raise much needed funds for more research. It is unacceptable that families continue losing the women they love so much.”
Like Bettina, you can help make a difference in the lives of women across Canada. Register today for the 2020 Walk and let’s Walk for all the women in our lives, because women deserve better.
