3rd Party Events
Raising awareness through third party events
Third party events are a great way to raise awareness and money for a cause that is close to your heart.
When Judy Eaton of Toronto wanted to honour the memory of her dear friend, Valerie Mitchell-Chambers, who passed away on June 25, 2006, after a six-month battle with ovarian cancer, she connected with Ovarian Cancer Canada
Judy was determined to start a fundraiser in Valerie’s name to ensure that her memory would live on and to increase awareness about the disease. She also wanted to raise money for research in the hope that someday soon there will be a way to diagnose ovarian cancer in its early, treatable stages and, ultimately, find a cure.
Judy hosted a luncheon in Valerie’s honour at Grazie Ristorante in Toronto. Friends, family members and neighbours enjoyed a lovely meal, picked up awareness materials from Ovarian Cancer Canada and met a survivor who shared her story with guests. The luncheon was so successful that Judy made it an annual event. In the first two years, the tribute luncheon raised more than $8,300 for Ovarian Cancer Canada.
“Valerie would be so happy if her experience and untimely death could in some way serve to help others,” says Judy. “This is what I want to do for her”.
