We’re rolling out some changes to the Peggy Truscott Award of Hope.
If you don’t know about this trailblazing woman, Peggy Truscott was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the year 2000 – and she’s the reason why we have the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope today. In her diagnosis Peggy became quite the force, dedicating much of her time and energy to helping other women diagnosed with the disease and raising awareness about the disease itself. She wanted to connect and empower women affected by ovarian cancer. She wanted to create an event that would bring women and their families and friends together – and so she rallied folks to join her and did just that.
As our dedicated staff team continues its work (from home), we also continue to monitor the latest news and developments, from trusted Canadian health agencies and sources about COVID-19. As usual, the health and well-being of the women and families we support, and our broader community, remains our top priority.
Like so many individuals and organizations across the country, Ovarian Cancer Canada is closely monitoring developments regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Being a health charity, the safety and well-being of the women and families we support, and also our staff and volunteers, is of utmost importance to us.
Proudly born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Afshan is an economist living in Ottawa with her husband, Mathieu, and their five-year old daughter, Eshana. At 37, Afshan is also surviving ovarian cancer. We connected with Afshan recently and she had a few things to say about her personal experience with this disease, following years of significant health and gynecologic challenges leading to her diagnosis in 2019.
At Ovarian Cancer Canada we’re committed to ensuring women and their families have all the facts and latest information about this disease. As part of that commitment we’re bringing a patient and family forum to a community near you on April 3- 4, 2020. Well…actually, to the community and greater area of Lloydminster, Alberta. If you or someone you know will be in the area that weekend, we invite you to attend and spread the word!
We are privileged to be a part of a global network of leaders working to advance progress on ovarian cancer. Ovarian Cancer Canada was delighted to host planning and strategy sessions with fellow members of the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition (WOCC) just a few weeks ago.
“Peggy and I would have made great team mates. And we still have work to do!”, said Tamara Peabody while accepting the 2019 Peggy Truscott Award at the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope in Winnipeg on September 8th.
The annual Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope rallied thousands of community members to help save women’s lives. Weather reports were mixed, but women and families affected by this disease formed a sea of teal from coast to coast.
Are you registered for the 2019 Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope? The Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope is the most powerful event of its kind in the country.
We’re so excited to have so many supporters and donors across Canada come out every year to community and gala fundraising events that channel dollars into action on ovarian cancer. Held in a selection of cities across Canada, LOVE HER and THE LADY BALL galas – organized and sponsored by dedicated community volunteers and local partners – provide ample opportunity for merriment, encouragement, and inspiration, all in support of saving women’s lives.
