OCC calls on Nova Scotians
January 18, 2024
In 2020, Nova Scotia became one of the first provinces to join OCC’s national research initiative by contributing a $1 million investment to ovarian cancer research. This has funded local research filling gaps in treatment and access, identifying novel treatment opportunities, and empowering leading minds from Nova Scotia. This work must continue.
That is why we are requesting that the Government of Nova Scotia continue supporting ovarian cancer research by granting OCC $1 million in the 2024-2025 provincial budget.
The government is accepting input from Nova Scotians on what is important to them in Budget 2024-25. The deadline to submit your input is January 26, 2024.
YOU CAN HELP TRANSFORM LIVES AND SUPPORT OUR ASK. HERE’S HOW:
Be sure to update the information that is personal to your experience with ovarian cancer and what motivates you to stand with OCC in our ask for more research funding. You can also use this as a talking script if you’d like to contact your MLA by phone.
SUBJECT LINE: CONSTITUENT BUDGET 2024 FEEDBACK- Keep driving life-saving ovarian cancer research in Nova Scotia
BODY TEXT:
To the Department of Finance and Treasury Board,
I live in [name of your city or town] and I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for Ovarian Cancer Canada’s submission requesting $1 million for ovarian cancer research in Budget 2024-2025.
[Here, write why Ovarian Cancer Canada’s research in Nova Scotia is important to you]
I know the realities of this disease all too well. I live with them every day.
Three-quarters of patients are diagnosed at stage 3 or 4. Recurrence rates are high, up to 95%, and survival rates haven’t improved in 50 years. Investment in research has lagged well behind that of other cancers such as breast cancer. I support Ovarian Cancer Canada and know that we can change the face of this disease through vital research, but we need your help.
Ovarian Cancer Canada will fund crucial research infrastructure and discovery research along the entire ovarian cancer continuum, improve and expand access to clinical trials for people like me, and invest in the next generation of Nova Scotian ovarian cancer researchers.
I stand with Ovarian Cancer Canada, requesting that the Nova Scotia government continue supporting ovarian cancer research by granting $1 million in Budget 2024-2025.
The progress and ground-breaking research underway in the province must continue.
There is no time to waste- lives like mine depend on it.
Thank you,
