Dr. Bombard’s ongoing work on the Genetics Adviser digital app investigates the efficacy of a digital app aimed at helping individuals diagnosed with cancer understand the importance of genetic testing and how to navigate the genetic testing pathway. Through Ovarian Cancer Canada’s investment, this work is being expanded to include the design of an app for unaffected relatives of cancer patients so they can be informed of a genetic mutation in the family, understand the implications of this information, and learn how to access cascade genetic testing so that prevention opportunities can be optimized.

Patient and previvor feedback on gaps in the prevention pathway related to genetic testing and communication of genetic testing results with family members will be incorporated into the design of this version of the Genetics Adviser app. Patients and previvors will also provide feedback on the usability and effectiveness of the digital app throughout the design process.
