THROUGH SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES AND RESEARCH BREAKTHROUGHS, OCC IS IMPROVING OVARIAN CANCER OUTCOMES AND WORKING TO ERADICATE IT FROM THE FUTURE. WE ARE COMMITTED TO ACCELERATING RESEARCH PROGRESS TO TRANSFORM LIVES.

OCC and our network of researchers and patient partners across Canada have built a national research engine that has led to new discoveries that help people with the disease live longer and better. We have earned international recognition for Canda as a leader in pioneering transformative research and discoveries, our momentum is unstoppable and impossible to ignore.

OCC enables collaboration with research scientists across Canada and attracts leading minds to the field. We are committed to accelerating research progress to transform lives.

How do we do this?

INVEST IN FUTURE PROGRESS

We fund trainees and new investigators to keep research thriving and invest in the next generation of researchers.

FUND OPPORTUNITIES THAT MAXIMIZE IMPACT

We offer funding opportunities that are unique, such as projects focused on rare types of ovarian cancer and funding for crucial scientific resources.

CONVENE THE OVARIAN CANCER RESEARCH COMMUNITY

We convene and retain researchers and scientists to focus on ovarian cancer research.

We have earned international recognition as a leader in pioneering transformative research and discoveries.

What sets our research apart?

01

Our research community is aligned

Research projects begin with an agreed upon set of priorities that are informed by the patient experience and are aimed at addressing the most pressing clinical gaps.

02

OUR RESEARCH PRIORITIES BUILD MOMENTUM

By aligning our priorities, researchers do not work in isolation, but continue to build on one another's progress.

03

OUR RESEARCH PIPELINE ENABLES DISCOVERIES

Our research establishes a pipeline of progress that focuses the research community’s priorities and invests in the tools and people that are essential to enable continuous discoveries.

04

OUR RESEARCH LEADS TO BREAKTHROUGHS

We invest in projects at the pre-clinical stage that are now moving forward to the next step in our research pipeline, such as clinical trials that will soon benefit patients.

05

OUR RESEARCH EXPANDS TO TRANSFORM LIVES

As our research program grows, the success of our initial research model will be applied to new research to maximize impact.

06

OUR RESEARCH IS PATIENT CENTERED

We believe that clinical and scientific inquiry can be enhanced by the unique perspectives of those affected by this disease. Patients are at the center of our research and are integrated throughout all aspects, keeping the voice of those with lived experience at the forefront.

HOW OUR RESEARCH INFORMS ADVOCACY

Stopping the disease before it starts

Ovarian Cancer Canada’s vital work and laser sharp focus include stopping the disease before it starts.  An estimated one in five cases of ovarian cancer can be linked to inherited genetic mutations. But knowledge of a mutation can inform steps towards preventive action.

PREVENTION CAN SAVE LIVES NOW

Our goal is to make way for generations who won't have to face this disease. We are convening the research community and our patient partners, and working with leading minds to prioritize advocacy and research that can effectively reduce the risk of ovarian cancer and prevent the disease before it starts.

REMOVING BARRIERS TO CARE

We are advocating for all. Factors such as knowledge and understanding of ovarian cancer, time to diagnosis, recognizing and acting on symptoms, and clinical trial awareness can have an enormous bearing on experiences and outcomes. OCC has developed self-advocacy tools to ensure Canadians can make the best decisions about their care, without barriers.

Driving prevention research

“Finding out I am a BRCA1 mutation carrier has opened my eyes, not only to the preventive measures I could undertake to reduce my ovarian cancer risk, but also in the way that knowledge is power, and I can better advocate for myself and my children. I’m grateful to say that at 40 years old I can live much more worry free now that I’ve undergone both a risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy and mastectomy. Prevention begins with awareness, which is why I am proud to be a member of the Prevention Task Force to share my experience and drive prevention research forward!”

– Jessica Rousseau, Previvor and member of OCC’s Prevention Task Force

Ovarian Cancer Canada is leaving no stone left unturned as we search for improved precision medicine options and advancements in research. The path ahead calls for added bench strength. We urgently need to press on, taking a sustainable approach that supports long-term research investments that improve treatment options for those living with the disease.

Real change is needed and there’s an urgency that underpins all our work and demands attention that cannot be ignored.
