The Quebec Cancer Foundation and Ovarian Cancer Canada are joining forces to ensure greater access to oncology support services
Montreal, October 18, 2024 — We are pleased to share the news of our new partnership with Ovarian Cancer Canada – an impactful alliance to enhance the support available to people impacted by cancer.
Every day, 8 Canadian women receive a diagnosis of ovarian cancer: this represents nearly 3,000 new cases every year. Ovarian cancer, with symptoms that are both vague and non-specific, is notoriously hard to diagnose. As a result, the women in question are often at an advanced stage at the time of their diagnosis and need access to information as well as the support of people who understand what they are going through, having either faced ovarian cancer or cared for someone struck by the disease.
Ovarian Cancer Canada staunchly believes that receiving personal support from a compassionate peer can make a concrete difference in the lives of those who receive such a diagnosis. Women referred to our telephone peer matching service can better understand, manage, and face cancer, thanks to the support of trained peers who have gone through a similar experience.
Our expertise when it comes to cancer, combined with the aptness of the psychological support available through our telephone peer matching service, allows for reaching and supporting yet more people suffering from ovarian cancer. “Being increasingly accessible consists of making sure we are present and ready to listen. It also means offering support whenever it is needed,” stated Véronique Ranger, Assistant General Manager of the Quebec Cancer Foundation.
By harnessing our strengths and enhancing our telephone peer matching service to better serve patients and their loved ones, we are reiterating our commitment to improving their well-being.
“Ovarian cancer has many faces and can impact people differently. Through our partnership with the Quebec Cancer Foundation, patients will receive support from people who understand the unique complexities of the being diagnosed, treated and living with ovarian cancer,” says Cailey Crawford, Vice President, Programs and Policy. “We’re proud to partner with the Quebec Cancer Foundation on this program. We share the desire to support Quebecers on their cancer journey, so together we will deliver change and transform the lives of those impacted by ovarian cancer.”
For the past 45 years, the Quebec Cancer Foundation has raised the funds needed to provide everyday support to thousands of Quebecers suffering from cancer and their loved ones. Through its Regional Centers in Montreal, Quebec City, the Eastern Townships, Outaouais, Mauricie, and Lévis, the Foundation offers complementary therapies – physical wellness and psychological support – as well as the largest accommodation network in the province. In addition, it offers financial and legal assistance programs to people with cancer and in precarious situations. The Foundation also offers a Corporate support program when cancer strikes at work, as well as tailored help for young people aged 15 to 39 affected by cancer through its Programme à Félix. Finally, the Foundation’s Info-cancer Services offer listening, answers, and solace in every part of the province.
One in two Quebecers will face cancer. We are here to support them both.
